Startup Seeks Tech Solutions to Government Finance Problems

The new venture, GovFi, is a spin-off from the nonprofit Government Finance Officers Association of the U.S. and Canada. It aims to solve problems with technology both built in-house and developed with partners.

GovTech, a leading publication covering technology in state and local government, featured the launch of GovFi Solutions in its GovTech Biz section. The article describes GovFi as “a sort of hybrid software company-innovation lab-tech accelerator,” built on a four-step model: validate problems with government finance officers, build solutions in-house or with partners, pilot them in real-world government environments, and invest and scale the ones that work.

The coverage highlights GovFi’s invitations for government finance officers to share challenges and for technology companies to submit solutions for evaluation. It also quotes Board President James Ha: “Building useful government technology takes more than a good idea or an impressive demonstration.”

The article introduces GovFi’s leadership as well, including Chief Innovation Officer Shayne Kavanagh and a board drawn from public finance, government technology and the venture community.
